Qualities That Make You A Good Fit For Working With Children

So when we talk about qualities we talking about your personality and core believes.

Not skills that you can study and improve on like safeguarding and child development knowledge and milestones which are also very important in working with children

All the great educators I have worked with either in Schools, Nursery’s, Sport Clubs or On Productions have these you can’t teach them or fake them check them out ⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️

1- Empathy putting your self in a child’s place and seeing the world from their perspective, understanding their emotions are valid and supporting them.

2- A Passion for working with children, a genuine interest in them and supporting them, being their advocate and remembering you are on a set for them not for you to meet people.

3) Being Calm with children sometimes things go wrong you need be able to be calm in an emergency. This one is tricky lots of people think they are calm until in an emergency situation. Children pick up on anxious up tight care givers and this can lead to them feeling anxious.

4)Positivity being positive a fixer someone how can overcome hurdles in front of children. A positive role model in front them when plans change. Someone they can engage with, respect, trust and have fun with.

5) Patience children and young adults are learning about themselves and others and life. On a set it’s a working experience you need to understand that every child develops and learn differently and at different speeds so you have to have patience with them and support them.

So that’s five and there are more which I will share later but if you work in film or tv production these are the qualities you are looking for when deciding who you want safeguarding your young cast.

I find going down the educational route for employment( I mean we taking them from these settings)and having an interview, were you can do a PVG digital check, ask questions, check references is the safest way to get the best candidate to safeguard your young cast and their needs and the needs of productions.
