Healthy Body Healthy Mind Supporting Young Casts
I work closely with older teenagers aged 15 and upwards, often supporting them over several weeks at a time while they are working away from home.
I try to help them plan and prioritise their wellbeing while on set. Long hours, being away from family and friends, working on new productions, and staying in hotels can be just as mentally taxing as they are physically.
We talk about the different things they can do to reset and relax, both on and off set. During breaks on set, going for a walk, reading, playing cards or games, and watching a movie can all be good ways to pass the time and take a mental break.
Off set, I also encourage some form of physical activity. This might be going for a longer walk if there is time, using the gym, or going for a run, which seems to be a firm favourite at the moment. Eating well and staying hydrated are also important, as are activities such as reading, journalling, gaming, or simply getting together for a meal.
